The Sony WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones have seen a tidy price reduction in Amazon’s Early Access Sale, the October shopping event we’re dubbing Prime Day 2.0. The Sony headphones are an Expert Reviews favourite, with our full-length Sony WH-1000XM5 review crowning the set “the Bluetooth headphones to beat,” so naturally we were thrilled to see them brought down to the sub-£300 region.

With an RRP of £380, the sleek, noise-cancelling headphones from Sony have an average retail price of £350 on Amazon. But they’re now available to snap up for a record-breaking £299 (cheapest EVER on Amazon according to price tracker CamelCamelCamel) – a stellar price point for one of the best sets of bluetooth headphones on the market.
We lauded these Sony headphones for their triple whammy offering of remarkable sound quality, genuinely effective noise cancellation and comfortability factor (high). The WH-1000MX5 are part of a supremely successful series of headphones dating back to Sony’s 2017 MDR-1000X.
A minimalistic aesthetic distinguishes these headphones, with a pared-down matte black design that doesn’t sacrifice style in the name of comfort. But comfortable these noise cancellers are, with a deceptively padded cup that sits gently on and creates a seal around the listener’s ear, bolstering passive noise reduction.
But it’s the suite of features that really make this set worth their premium price point, like their Speak-to-Chat functionality which pauses audio when your voice is detected (perfect for office environments). Similarly, the Quick Attention mode lets you heighten ambient sound, letting you in on conversations happening around you. Meanwhile, wear detection is enabled by a sensor located in the left earcup, pausing audio when the earcup is fully removed and resuming when it’s replaced.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones have set the bar high when it comes to over-ear, noise-cancelling Bluetooth audio. With savings of £51 on their average retail price on Amazon thanks to the Early Access Sale, now’s the time to invest in an industry-leading pair at a palatable price.
