With the Skullcandy PLYR, SLYR Pro and SLYR, the manufacturer returns to the gaming headset segment after last cheap in-ear headphones – albeit under admittedly somewhat strange-sounding names. But technically and visually, the three new headsets make quite a splash, at least on paper.
The three new gaming headsets, Skullcandy PLYR, SLYR Pro and SLYR, are said to combine a low price with the brand’s iconic colorful look and rich sound. As multi-platform headsets, all three models are compatible with PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile devices.
Keeping track of the fairly similar-sounding names isn’t so easy. Let’s give it a try: The SLYR is the entry-level model and is connected via cable, just like the SLYR Pro.
Equipped are the Pro model with features like ESP and Clear Voice Smart Mic with detachable boom mic, while the regular SLYR offers a detachable bidirectional mic. They are said to acoustically enhance the gaming experience thanks to Supreme Sound and provide premium sound depth in games.
The top model in the range, on the other hand, is the Skullcandy PLYR. For a maximum sound experience, Skullcandy has adapted its popular Personal Sound technology for PLYR. This has been newly developed especially for gaming and goes by the name of Enhanced Sound Perception (ESP).
After an individual hearing test, the sound is adapted and tuned specifically to your ears. For clear communication, the PLYR is equipped with Clear Voice Smart Mic, which uses artificial intelligence to isolate the speaker’s voice and block out background noise.
Thanks to the Dual Connect feature, you can also create a wired and wireless connection to stream audio from two separate devices simultaneously. An adjustable, spring-loaded headband reduces pressure on the head.
PLYR, SLYR Pro and SLYR are made of durable, lightweight materials and feature memory foam ear cushions wrapped in moisture-wicking, breathable material. SLYR Pro and PLYR also offer the ability to switch between different gaming EQs, including ESP and Custom EQ.
